Dr. Patravoot Vatanasapt, MD, PhD, FRCOT

Associate Professor, Dept of Otorhinolaryngology,
Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University

An associate professor of Otorhinolaryngology at the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, Thailand, Dr. Patravoot was a former head of the department, and currently the chief of the head and neck surgery division. He has also served as the chairman of the cancer registry unit of Srinagarind Hospital, overseeing both hospital-based and population-based cancer registries for the past five years. He initiated the surgical skill training program for otolaryngologists using fresh-frozen cadaver at Khon Kaen University, and now the Director of the ASEAN Head and Neck Dissection Course.

His researches focus on the epidemiology of head and neck cancer, and HPV&EBV related head and neck cancer. He was invited as a member of the working group for the IARC Handbook Volume 19: Oral Cancer Prevention.

In the realm of professional leadership, Dr. Patravoot has held several significant positions, including Past President of the Thai Society of Head and Neck Oncology (TSHNO), President of the Asian Society of Head and Neck Oncology (ASHNO), Coordinator of the ASEAN Head & Neck Network, a member of the Council and Executive Committee of the Asia-Pacific Society of Thyroid Surgery, Thailand representative of the Asia-Oceania of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Society, and a member of the Advisory board of the Royal College of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery of Thailand. He is a prime mover for the Diploma of Thai Subspecialty Board of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology.

Besides his career in the medical field, he is also a musician, specializing in jazz piano. He has applied the therapeutic use of music for head and neck cancer patients. He has also conducted research on music and medicine and initiated a Master’s Program in Music Therapy at Khon Kaen University in Thailand. Additionally, he is a founding member and the past president of the International Association for Music and Medicine (IAMM).
